Christopher J. Beauregard, PE

As I pass the midway point of my term as President of the Central Pennsylvania Section, I will take this opportunity to thank the men and women I serve with. Their service includes tasks as wide ranging as the sub-disciplines within the field of civil engineering. There are the faculty and practitioner advisors that work closely with our student chapters. Their efforts and those of the student chapter officers have helped to place our student engineers on the road to success. There are those who serve on the Board of Officers or as Committee Chairs, and volunteer their time to: coordinating dinners and special events; pursuing legislation that is in the best interest of our profession; tracking our finances; and, a host of other tasks that we all benefit from. There are the members that go the extra mile to mentor a student or younger member and pass on their knowledge to the next generation of engineers. To all those members that participate and contribute to our Section, "thank you".

Having an energized and engaged membership is essential to the success of our society. Therefore, I am making a personal appeal to our membership for volunteers. As Board members move onto new career and personal challenges, our Section needs members to step up and fill those vacancies. In addition, there are opportunities for participation as advisors to student chapters. I ask that each of our members consider what they have to offer and what they can do to help sustain our Section.

Our Section is extensive. It covers the entire central portion of Pennsylvania from New York to Maryland. Some of our members may feel that participation is not practical when most of our activities occur within the Harrisburg area. If this is the case, I would hope that they consider becoming involved in one of the four student chapters: Penn State in State College; Bucknell in Lewisburg; Penn College in Williamsport; or, Penn State Harrisburg in Middletown. In addition to their professors, these student chapters need to connect with practitioners as they make the transition from students to professionals. If you have any questions, visit our Section's website, asce-pa.org.
